J. C. Unger was born in Windsor, Canada and spent his childhood years in the Kingsville - Leamington area. As a youngster he studied violin and with the arrival of The Beatles, soon added guitar and piano to his musical repertoire.

While still in his teens, his group The Dorian was signed with G.M. Records in Detroit, Michigan. Garden of Love, their first album, was released on EMI in Europe and Big Tree in the US. It produced a top-ten requested hit, Help For My Waiting in the Mid-West mostly from airplay on the legendary CKLW radio. In the early 1970s J.C. joined a Las Vegas style show band and played to sold-out show rooms from Las Vegas to Fort Lauderdale.

JC UngerJ.C. along with Ken Sands (Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder) and Gary Praeg (George Clinton, Eminem) later produced the band Shivers for its version of the Isley's, This Old Heart of Mine, a Billboard Magazine Top Ten Pick. MCA Records then signed J.C. as a songwriter. His tune, Now That I've Found You, was recorded by Al Hudson & One Way. The album on which it appears, One Way, also contains the million seller, Get Up and Do Your Thing. His talents extended to radio where he appeared as a musical guest on 760 AM's, Mitch Albom show, simulcast on MSNBC.

He seemed to be somewhat lucky at contests. J.C. received third place honors in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Competition for a children's song he co-wrote entitled Picadilly. He was also the grand prize winner for the Bud Light Songwriting Contest winning an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii in 1995.

In 2002 J.C. released his first book, A Musician's Story, (Barnes and Noble, B. Dalton, Amazon.com.) In October 2003 J.C. relocated to tropical St. Petersburg Florida and began a new life performing the beach bars and continuing to write and produce music. In 2007 he married the lovely Mary Beth and in June of 2008, won the Grand Prize in People Magazine's, Luck Be A Beautiful Lady writing competition for his 50 word essay entitled, LUCKY LUCKY ME. J.C. and Mary Beth used the prize, an all expense paid three day stay at the Bellagio, as their honeymoon! J.C's second book, ONE THING OVER, on Publish America Publishing is now out and available from these sources: Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Nobles, and PublishAmerica.com.

J.C. teamed up with Jim Lanier to form the BeachBums in November of 2007. Their songwriting/video effort, BETTER THAN THIS was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays to be played at home games on their Jumbo Screen during the 2009 season and beyond. The lively tune appeared on the Beach Bum album, LIVIN' IN PARADISE and is now receiving airplay on Internet radio across the US. Their new CD, Rise and Shine, is also receiving airplay on Internet and FM radio.

J.C. also performs with Al Ruggiero, a local legend in the St. Petersburg area, in their band, The Al and JC Show. They can be seen every Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 at Billy's in Terra Verde and starting Feb 2/10, they will appear Tuesdays at The Blue Parrot in St. Pete Beach.
